Cultural Connections
Our bottles containing blessings are found along park hiking trails that we enjoy visiting. Some bottles are embedded into hand carved wooden vessels featuring roughly fashioned cultural symbols with traditional meanings that are explained below. We intend to place at least one handcrafted vessel along a moderate hiking trail each month. Sometimes we'll place a blessing in a bottle including a symbolic charm. Click the button by month for information relating their locations for this and previous years. Then, hike some of the designated trails to find vessels containing a blessing.
The roughly carved wooden vessels and bottled blessings are found along the trails, and sometimes among the vegetation but never exceeding a foot off the trail. It is very important to be careful of the environment as you search, and especially when you find the carved vessel containing a blessing. Our appreciation of the environments in and around places we live and visit inspired this project and we want to protect them.
Trails for now include areas in Salem, Massachusetts, Kauai and Oahu, Hawaii, Northwest Washington, Phoenix, Arizona, Tortola, BVI, Osby, Sweden, Simi Valley, California and Surry, B.C. Our hiking trails will change over time but remain in these same general areas. If you find a carved wooden vessel or a bottled blessing with a charm, report your find using the Report button. Hang your carved vessel by a doorway or place the bottled blessing with the charm near an entry to share your blessing with others.
